There’s lots to do, see, and eat in Calgary during the month of July! Whether you are visiting for work or pleasure, here are some events you will definitely not want to miss.
There are 122,000 registered dogs in Calgary and over 130 off leash areas, making it one of the best cities for dogs in Canada. If you are a pet lover, this is an event you won’t want to skip out on! Pet-a-Palooza is the West Coast’s largest outdoor pet festival! Bring your animal to this pet friendly event and sample treats, food, toys, and receive tons of free swag. You’ll also be able to witness bulldog races, listen to live music, and visit with local rescues. The Pet-a-Palooza hits Calgary on July 23rd and 24th at Eau Claire.
If you are looking to get in touch with your western side, the Calgary Stampede is just the festival for you! The ten day event has even been dubbed “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” attracting over one million visitors per year and features one of the worlds largest rodeos. You’ll also see a paraday, concerts, chuckwagon racing, and First Nations exhibits. The event dates back to 1886, when the first fair was held. American promoter Guy Weadick organized his first rodeo and festival, known as the stampede. This year, the festival will be held July 8th – 17th.
The city transforms into party mode when the rodeo comes to town. Office buildings and storefronts are painted in cowboy themes, residents wear their western gear and events are held across the city.
